Down by Law
December 30th, 2001Thanks to Jeffrey Zeldman and A List Apart, all of my worrying about filtering earlier this year has turned into Down By Law. My article looks at a new US law that will require some public libraries and schools to employ ětechnological protection measures.î I fear that this legislation, designed keep library users from looking at smut, will not do what it is supposed to do but will force libraries to censor Internet access. This will hurt the poorest of the poor.
I never want to work without good editors like Jeffrey and Erin again.
It looks like my Internet host has fixed the problem. The site is clipping along now. Of course, it is early and only people to the east of my time zone would be hitting the server now. I remain skeptical but hopeful and will refrain from talking trash about the provider just yet.
